Terms and Conditions
Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (ITEE), commonly known as PAT testing.
Last updated: 28 September 2026
1. About us and these terms
PAT Testing Leicester is a trading name used for electrical equipment inspection and testing services operated by Leicestershire Appliance Repair, an independent sole trader based in Leicester Forest East. In these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to the service provider; “you” refers to the person or organisation booking the work.
These terms apply when you accept a quotation or arrange for us to inspect and test equipment. A booking is confirmed when we agree the scope, price and appointment with you. Any specific terms agreed in writing for your booking take priority over these general terms where they differ.
2. The service
We carry out visual inspection and, where appropriate, electrical testing of equipment within the agreed scope. The inspection and tests selected depend on the equipment, its condition, how it is used and what can be done safely. We work with reference to the IET Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment, 5th Edition.
Unless your written quotation says otherwise, the service does not include appliance repairs, replacement parts, fixed wiring inspection, an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR), installation work, or dismantling equipment beyond what is reasonably needed for the agreed inspection.
Inspection and testing gives a result for an item at the time it is examined. A pass label or report is not a warranty against a later fault, a guarantee of continued safety, or a blanket certificate of legal compliance. The person responsible for the equipment remains responsible for its maintenance, safe use and appropriate future inspection intervals.
3. Information needed for a quote
Please tell us the site address and postcode, whether it is a home, rented property or business premises, your estimated number and types of items, any unusual access or operating conditions, and any specific reporting or site requirements. Please identify items requiring shutdown, a tenant appointment, restricted access, work at height or specialist handling.
A quote based on an estimated item count may change if the number, type, location or condition of the items differs. We will explain any additional charges and seek your agreement before carrying out extra chargeable work.
4. Prices and payment
The agreed quotation sets out the price, any minimum visit charge, per-item rates where applicable, travel or out-of-area charges, and the payment terms. The minimum visit charge, if quoted, may apply even when fewer items are available than originally estimated. We will tell you before the appointment if a different rate applies to particular equipment or locations.
You are responsible for payment if you make the booking, unless we have agreed in writing that another party will pay. Please provide a purchase order number in advance if your organisation requires one. Payment is due as stated in the accepted quote or invoice. We will not add unagreed work to the bill.
5. Appointments and access
Appointment dates and times are agreed subject to availability. Please provide safe access to the premises, equipment, plugs and sockets, and arrange permission from any tenant, occupier or site manager before we attend. An adult or authorised site contact must be available to admit us and discuss any safety findings.
Equipment should be available to disconnect safely. Please arrange any necessary IT shutdowns, staff notices, production pauses or permission to disconnect before the visit. We may be unable to test equipment that is in use, inaccessible, hard-wired, unsafe to disconnect or outside the agreed scope.
Keep the working area clear and disclose known damage, faults, hazardous environments and any site induction or personal protective equipment requirements in advance.
6. Items we cannot fully test
We may record an item as not tested, limited inspection, or another appropriate outcome where a full test is unsafe or impractical. Examples include inaccessible plugs, equipment that cannot be powered down, delicate electronics requiring an alternative method, and items with visible damage that should not be energised.
We will explain material limitations in the report or directly to your site contact. An item that cannot be fully tested should not be treated as having passed a full inspection and test. Where appropriate, we may recommend further assessment by a suitable specialist.
7. Failed or unsafe equipment
If an item fails inspection or testing, we will record the result and notify your site contact. We may attach a failed-item label, isolate the item if it is safe and agreed to do so, or advise that it is removed from use. You remain responsible for ensuring that unsafe equipment is not used and for arranging any repair, replacement and subsequent inspection or test.
Repairs, replacement plugs or fuses, and return visits are not included unless stated in the quote or separately agreed. We will not repair or modify an item without your agreement. Payment for inspection and testing is still due where an item fails.
8. Reports, labels and future testing
We will provide a record of the items inspected and their results in the format agreed for your booking. We will take reasonable care to identify items accurately using the information and access available at the visit. Please tell us promptly if you notice an apparent reporting error so we can check it.
Where suitable, we may apply labels to identify the item and its inspection result. A label is a practical record, not a legal requirement or a substitute for regular user checks and maintenance. Any suggested reinspection date is guidance based on available information; you must decide suitable intervals in light of the equipment, its use and its environment.
9. Cancellations, rescheduling and failed visits
Contact us as soon as you need to cancel or rearrange. If you cancel before we begin travelling and before any agreed preparatory work has started, we will refund any advance service payment in full. Rescheduling is subject to availability.
If you cancel after travel has begun, or we cannot carry out the visit because access, authorisation or equipment was unavailable, we may charge reasonable travel costs, time spent and direct losses caused by the failed visit. We will explain the amount; it will not automatically equal the full quoted price. If we cancel and you do not want to rearrange, we will refund any payment for work we have not supplied.
Where you book as a consumer, your statutory cancellation rights in section 10 take priority over this appointment policy.
10. Additional cancellation rights for consumers
If you enter into a contract with us as a consumer, rather than for business purposes, and the contract is made at a distance or away from our business premises, you will normally have 14 days after the day the service contract is made to cancel without giving a reason. You can tell us clearly by phone, text, WhatsApp or through our contact page. You may use any clear wording; no special form is required.
If you want us to begin work within that 14-day period, please expressly request this when confirming the booking. For a contract made away from business premises, the request must be recorded on a durable medium, such as email or text. If you then cancel after work has started, you may need to pay a reasonable amount proportionate to the service already supplied, as permitted by law.
If the service is fully performed during the cancellation period after your express request and you acknowledged that you would lose the right to cancel once it was fully performed, that statutory cancellation right ends on completion. If you exercise a statutory cancellation right before work begins, we will provide any refund due within 14 days of being told of the cancellation, using the original payment method unless we agree otherwise. These statutory rights generally do not apply when you contract for business purposes, including a booking made for a business activity.
11. Standards of service and complaints
We will carry out the agreed service with reasonable care and skill. If you believe we have made an error, please contact us promptly with the site address, visit date, item details and the issue. We will review the result and, where appropriate, arrange a correction or revisit.
Nothing in these terms removes any rights you have under consumer law, including rights relating to services carried out without reasonable care and skill.
12. Responsibility and liability
We are responsible for foreseeable loss or damage caused by our failure to use reasonable care and skill or by our breach of these terms. Please tell us about any particularly important operational risks before the visit so that we can agree how to carry out the work.
We are not responsible for pre-existing faults, defects arising after the inspection, equipment we could not inspect or test, or losses caused by the continued use of an item after we have advised that it is unsafe, except where the law says otherwise. Nothing in these terms excludes or restricts liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability that cannot legally be excluded.
13. Personal information
We use the information you give us to respond to enquiries, prepare quotes, arrange visits, carry out testing, deliver reports, handle payment and deal with follow-up queries. You may contact us through forms, email, SMS or WhatsApp. See our privacy policy for more information about how personal information is handled.
14. Changes and governing law
We may update these terms. The version provided or available when we confirm your booking will normally apply to that booking, unless a change is required by law or we agree a change with you. If any term is unenforceable, the remaining terms continue to apply.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Any dispute is subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, subject to any mandatory rights you may have as a consumer.
